Simran Jeet Singh Residency Events

May 24, 2023 | 10.00am CDT - May 24, 2023 | 7.30pm CDT

Join us for a suite of events with one of our inaugural Public Religion Residents, anti-racist scholar and activist Simran Jeet Singh! Launched in early 2023, the Public Religion Residency Program engages recognized leaders whose work intersects with the mission of the Marty Center and advances the public understanding of religion. While each residency is uniquely tailored, the overall program is designed to highlight the insights and expertise of people from diverse fields, to share new perspectives, and to encourage partnerships between religion scholars and the wider community.

The Executive Director of the Aspen Institute’s Religion and Society Program, Singh is an engaging guest speaker who often delivers keynote addresses and facilitates workshops. In 2020, he was recognized by TIME Magazine for his advocacy for equality in America. As a Public Religion Resident, he will draw on this expertise to speak to graduate students about working outside of the traditional academy, as well as serve as a public interlocutor for the Marty Seminar Junior Fellowship. A long-standing program of the Marty Center, the annual seminar brings together a cohort of dissertation-stage Divinity School PhD students to read, respond to, and discuss each other’s work, as well as to practice presenting it to non-specialist audiences. Singh will also give an author talk at the Seminary Co-Op Bookstore about his recently published book, The Light We Give: How Sikh Wisdom Can Transform Your Life.
